The Haltech WB1 is a single-channel wideband oxygen-sensor controller that sends lambda data directly to a compatible Haltech ECU over the Haltech CAN network.

For a NEXUS Rebel LS installation, the ECU already includes one onboard Bosch LSU 4.9 wideband controller and sensor. Adding the WB1 provides the second independent wideband channel needed to monitor both exhaust banks separately. This allows the ECU and tuner to identify bank-to-bank fueling differences that a single sensor in a merged exhaust cannot show.

Because the wideband data is transmitted digitally over CAN, the WB1 does not consume one of the ECU’s analog inputs or require a separate analog-output calibration. The controller is automatically detected by supported Haltech software and can be assigned as an additional wideband channel for monitoring, data logging, closed-loop fuel control, and engine-protection strategies.

Application Notes

  • The NEXUS Rebel LS ECU already includes one onboard Bosch LSU 4.9 wideband controller and sensor.
  • Adding one WB1 gives a Rebel LS installation two independent wideband channels, allowing one sensor to be installed in each exhaust bank.
  • For meaningful bank-to-bank comparison, each sensor should be installed upstream of any exhaust crossover or point where the two banks merge.
  • The WB1 can also be used as the primary wideband controller with Haltech ECUs that do not include onboard wideband control.
  • The controller communicates with the ECU through the Haltech CAN network rather than through a conventional 0–5 V analog input.
  • Once connected and powered, the controller appears in the ECU software’s device list and must be enabled and assigned to the appropriate wideband channel.
  • Wideband data can be used for monitoring or logging without enabling closed-loop oxygen-sensor control.
  • Closed-loop fuel correction and lambda-based engine protection must be separately configured in the ECU calibration.
  • The controller includes two DTM-4 CAN connections. Either connection can be used for the ECU connection, leaving the second available to continue the CAN network to another compatible Haltech device.
  • Multiple Haltech CAN devices can be connected in a daisy chain when the network layout and available cable lengths permit.
  • A Haltech CAN hub may be used when a branched network layout is more practical than daisy-chaining devices.
  • The included power-supply cable requires a fused, switched 12 V source that remains powered during both Key On and engine cranking.
  • The controller ground should be connected to a reliable battery or ECU-system ground.
  • Wideband-sensor heater current is substantially higher while a cold sensor reaches operating temperature.
  • Haltech requires relay-supplied, fused switched power when multiple wideband controllers are connected and their combined current exceeds the available CAN-device power supply.
  • The controller can be mounted in the engine compartment but should be positioned away from the exhaust system, turbocharger, and other concentrated heat sources.
  • Although the controller is sealed, it should be mounted with the connectors oriented so that water cannot collect in or around them.
  • Haltech recommends positioning the sensor approximately 3.3 ft. (1 m) from the nearest exhaust valve, measured along the exhaust path.
  • On a turbocharged application, Haltech recommends locating the sensor approximately 3.3 ft. (1 m) downstream of the turbocharger outlet.
  • The sensor should be installed at an angle that reduces the possibility of condensation collecting on the sensing element.
  • The sensor should not be powered while removed from the exhaust and exposed to concentrated solvents, sealants, fuel, oil, or other contaminants.
  • The included controller is calibrated specifically for a Bosch LSU 4.9 sensor. It is not interchangeable with the NTK version of the Haltech WB1 without replacing the controller with the correct NTK-specific model.
  • This kit does not include a gauge or standalone display. Wideband information is viewed and logged through the connected ECU, compatible Haltech dash, or tuning software.
  • Compatibility with a third-party ECU depends on whether that ECU supports the applicable Haltech CAN wideband protocol and may require additional CAN wiring or configuration.
