The Haltech NEXUS Rebel JZ is a complete engine-management and terminated-harness package developed specifically for Toyota 1JZ and 2JZ engine swaps.
The Rebel JZ combines the ECU, power management, wideband controller, onboard data logging, Wi-Fi connectivity, and an easy-to-install JZ engine harness in one integrated system. Dedicated, preconfigured inputs and outputs eliminate much of the wiring and software setup normally required with a universal standalone ECU, while Haltech’s Rebel JZ Setup Wizard makes initial configuration straightforward.
The kit supports naturally aspirated and turbocharged 1JZ and 2JZ engines, including VVT-i and non-VVT-i variants, with a cable-operated throttle and manual transmission. An optional sub-harness also supports conversion to a compatible Bosch drive-by-wire throttle.

The supplied R35 coil harness does not include ignition coils or a coil-mounting bracket. Haltech’s HT-120200 JZ-to-R35 coil-conversion kit is available separately.

- The supplied kit is configured for a cable-operated throttle body and manual transmission.
- The included throttle sub-harness supports the applicable Toyota throttle-position sensor and idle-air-control system.
- Conversion to a compatible Bosch drive-by-wire throttle requires the optional HT-186162 drive-by-wire sub-harness and a compatible accelerator-pedal assembly.
- Toyota ETCS-i, sometimes described as Toyota’s semi-drive-by-wire system, is not supported.
- The supplied injector sub-harness uses Timer/EV1 injector connectors.
- Optional injector sub-harnesses are available separately for USCAR/EV6 and Sumitomo/Denso injector connectors.
- The ECU supports high-impedance fuel injectors only.
- The included ignition sub-harness is designed for direct-fire R35-style coil-on-plug ignition.
- R35 ignition coils and the required coil-mounting hardware are not included.
- Factory distributor ignition, wasted-spark ignition, and ignition systems using the original external igniter are not supported.
- The original 1JZ coolant-temperature sensor is not supported. A compatible 2-pin coolant-temperature sensor is required.
- The harness supports the original crankshaft and applicable camshaft-position sensors for supported VVT-i and non-VVT-i engines.
- Non-VVT-i engines can use both factory camshaft sensors for faster synchronization during startup.
- VVT-i engines use the rear camshaft-position-sensor connection and include direct control of the factory VVT-i solenoid.
- The onboard 4-bar MAP sensor supports naturally aspirated and boosted applications up to approximately 43 psi of boost at sea-level atmospheric pressure.
- An external MAP sensor can be installed for combinations operating beyond the onboard sensor’s range.
- Factory airflow meters are not used; engine load is calculated from manifold pressure and the configured speed-density fuel model.
- Factory sequential-twin-turbo control is not supported. Single-turbo and mechanically simplified turbo arrangements can be controlled using the available boost-control functions.
- A boost-control solenoid is supported but is not included.
- The supplied transmission harness is configured for a Toyota R154 manual transmission.
- Other compatible manual transmissions require the appropriate vehicle-speed, reverse-lockout, and related wiring through the transmission breakout connector.
- Automatic-transmission control is not included with this kit.
- A flex-fuel composition sensor is supported but is not included.
- The kit includes one 150 psi pressure sensor for oil-pressure monitoring.
- A separate fuel-pressure sensor can be added to enable fuel-pressure compensation and fuel-pressure-based engine-protection strategies.
- The onboard wideband controller supports one Bosch LSU 4.9 sensor. Dual-bank wideband monitoring requires an additional Haltech CAN wideband controller and sensor.
- The ECU provides one user-configurable 25 A output that is preconfigured for starter-solenoid control but can be reassigned to another suitable high-current function.
- The ECU requires direct battery-positive and battery-negative connections. The required 4 AWG battery cables are sold separately.
- Haltech recommends a 100 A fuse in the ECU battery-positive connection.
- The Rebel JZ Setup Wizard generates an initial configuration based on the selected engine, camshaft, induction system, throttle, MAP sensor, fuel system, injectors, and ignition coils.
- The supplied base configuration is intended to start and operate the engine. Final calibration is still required for the actual engine, fuel system, turbocharger, intake, exhaust, and vehicle combination.
- The ECU’s CAN network is intended for compatible Haltech CAN devices. Retention of factory instrument-cluster, ABS, body-control, transmission-control, or other OEM network functions requires separate application-specific integration.
