Chop Gun 911 — RAD DIY Build Kit
Build your 6.2L for the 911.
Estimated starting price: $6,999
A good 6.2L LS is a strong place to start. Chop Gun 911 is how you build it into an engine suited to its new home behind the seats of a Porsche 996 or 997. The kit brings together the Chop Gun cam and supporting valvetrain, a substantial top-end refresh, Porsche-specific oiling, and the electronics and finished RAD tune that make the combination work in the car.
Whether your engine is a used takeout or a fresh crate engine, the installation is an opportunity to address more than performance. Chop Gun 911 supplies the parts to replace key seals, sensors, and wear items while the engine is apart—and tackles several of the engine-side challenges that make a Porsche swap different from a conventional LS installation.
Four parts of one complete conversion:
- Chop Gun performance. A RAD-specified camshaft, matched valve springs and pushrods, new lifters and trays, and renewed timing components deliver the sound and response of the Chop Gun combination. The kit also includes the parts to eliminate factory DoD if your 6.2L has it.
- A fresh top end. A complete top-end gasket and seal package includes new head gaskets and valve stem seals. New engine-control and monitoring sensors, spark plugs, front-cover components, and related hardware address important maintenance work as part of the build.
- Porsche integration. The front-sump pan and matched pickup handle engine-side oil-pan packaging. A plug-and-play standalone ECU and harness, Porsche CAN interface, flex-fuel capability, and completed RAD tune bring the engine into the 996/997.
- Built for the way a 911 carries and oils its engine. Upgraded head studs add clamping where the Porsche installation supports the LS through its cylinder heads. A high-volume, high-pressure oil pump, crank scraper, windage tray, and matched front-sump hardware complete the oiling package.
You supply a mechanically sound 6.2L LS and build it yourself or with your chosen shop. RAD supplies a defined path to Chop Gun 911—the character you came for, with the engine-side Porsche work already specified.

Completed RAD Tune
The ECU includes the completed Chop Gun 911 RAD tune for startup, idle, normal driving, throttle response, flex-fuel operation, and full-throttle performance.
The kit is designed around a mechanically sound, customer-supplied 6.2L LS. Its existing block, rotating assembly, cylinder heads, intake manifold, throttle body, ignition coils, and compatible accessories provide the starting point for the conversion.
Starting Engine and Vehicle Requirements
The Chop Gun 911 DIY Build Kit is designed to convert a sound, largely stock Gen IV 6.2L LS into RAD’s Porsche-specific Chop Gun configuration. Before ordering, the following are assumed:
- A complete, serviceable Gen IV 6.2L LS engine core. The block, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, rocker arms, and ignition coils must be suitable for reuse. Engines with or without DoD are acceptable; tell RAD whether the core has DoD and/or VVT so the correct components can be specified.
- Good underlying engine condition. Verify compression, leakdown, and oil pressure before disassembly where possible. The core must be free of material defects such as damaged cylinder walls, bearing damage, cracks, overheating damage, or oil/coolant contamination. This kit does not include machine work or a rebuild of a damaged short block.
- Stock, unmodified OEM rectangular-port cylinder heads, typically 821 or 823 castings. The heads must not have been milled, ported, or otherwise altered. Deck surfaces, valve guides, and the mounting locations used in the Porsche installation must be serviceable.
- An OEM LS3 car-style intake manifold and compatible OEM LS3 drive-by-wire throttle body. These are assumed to come with the customer’s engine or be supplied separately.
- A compatible Porsche 996/997 installation. Vehicle-side swap parts and systems—including engine and transmission mounting, cooling, fuel supply, exhaust, accessory drive, charging, and starting—must be supplied separately as needed. Provide the Porsche model year and transmission configuration before ordering.
- Vehicle wiring compatible with the supplied Porsche integration package. Tell RAD about any previous changes to the DME connections, CAN wiring, throttle pedal wiring, or engine harness so the ECU and interface can be specified correctly.
- An installer equipped for engine assembly work. Installation involves removing the cylinder heads, replacing the camshaft and valvetrain components, fitting the Porsche oiling system, installing the ECU and harness, and checking mechanical clearances before startup.
Have a different combination? RAD can accommodate many variations. Contact us before ordering if your engine, cylinder heads, intake, wiring, or Porsche installation differs from these assumptions so we can confirm the right kit configuration.
